How are the steps going Room 5?  I hope you are keeping a tally of each day. We are dropping down the list but hopefully we can catch up when we back with your all your steps.
Ellie has been send me her totals by email and over the last 4 days she has done 50, 082. Perhaps we should have prize for the most steps over the holidays!

My total is nowhere near as impressive as Ellie's, I think I have been sitting doing too much school work!! Plus I keep forgetting to put mine on in the morning when I take my dog for a walk. Bess doesn't mind because it means she gets another walk later in the day! Can you see she is smiling!

Send me a photo of you getting active over the holidays so I can post it on the blog.

Greek Shield

John emailed this to me - I think he has done a fantastic job and he is definitely getting ready for our Greek Day.

This is the Greek shield that I made with Dad and painted with Mum.
I made the shape myself. I drew the pattern onto a piece of paper and then cut it out and stuck it onto the wood and drew around it. Then I used Dad's jigsaw to cut it out. For the handle, I cut blocks of wood and used a bit and brace to make holes in the blocks for the poles to go through and then screwed the handle onto the shield.
Then Dad painted it black for me.
I found a design I liked in a Greek warrior book, I pencilled the design onto the shield, and Mum helped me paint it on.
I'm really proud of it.

Postcard from Zoe

Today we received a post card from Zoe. She has been to visit the Grand Canyon she told us it 6,000 feet deep. We thought it would take a long time to reach the bottom.

We wanted to say thanks for sending us the postcard and we hope she is having a good time. We thought we would try a quick movie and hope she is looking at the blog.

Writing

On Monday we were writing about how the sheep must be feeling out in the rain! Especially the rain that hasn't stopped.
Zayden went home and did some more writing.

Its been raining for the past 2 days now. I am soaking wet from the raindrops and it is making me shiver.  I am going to huddle together with my friends to keep warm.  Look! Here comes the manager, we are getting shifted to shelter.  We are much warmer now which is good because it is nearly dark.

Sam's Dog Hero Story and Rocket Comic

Sam has been very busy crafting for homework.

Dog Hero and the Crazy Parrot

One day Dog Hero was walking in his garden and he saw a mean boy snatch some bread from a crazy parrot. So the parrot nipped him.
The boy began to grow into a dragon. It ate everything in sight. It ate and drank. The police came, and it ate them up.
Then Dog Hero came with an Avro Lancaster and bombed him. The dragon exploded and where the dragon was there stood the boy and he was a nice boy.
Hooray for Dog Hero.

My Rocket Comic

Ellie's Homework

Dear Lauren Boyle
I woke up one morning excited to know that you were in the finals for swimming.  It was important to eat my breakfast fast as Mum wouldn’t let me turn on the TV till I was ready for school.  This meant the chickens had to be done, my hair had to be done, all before 7.07 am.
Finally I could turn on the TV and there you were coming out in your grey tracksuit with the New Zealand fern standing out for everyone to see.  I can’t imagine how nervous you were because I was feeling nervous for you.  Suddenly the starter went bang, off you dived.  Mum kept on asking me what lane is the New Zealand girl in.  I was getting fed up with Mum because I had to keep telling her lane 6, lane 6.  I was so proud that you got into the final and tried you best.  GO NEW ZEALAND, GO!

Homework

This week for homework we have been practicing our writing skills and getting feedback from people. Getting feedback helps us improve our skills. Mya and Fran have sent me two pieces of writing this week (thanks Mya and Fran). Can you give them some feedback about their writing. Remember we like to here what is good and what we can improve on.

Mya

Bella
Bella is a soft and gentle cat, but a hunter too.
Bella means beautiful in French.
This little girl is a black cat with white splodges.
Her green eyes are like jewels with black slits.
She is the best cat a human could have.

Book Review: The 39 Clues
The best books I have read are the 39 clues series. This is the story of an eleven year old boy (Dan), and his sister (Amy), on a hunt for the 39 clues. Unfortunately, others are also looking for the 39 clues, and some of them are trained agents. With the help of their dead grandmother, Dan and Amy find their way into first place.
This book has a big vocabulary and lets you imagine all you want. It is suitable for both boys and girls but will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Fran
Imagine!
Imagine a Butterfly with eight wings
Imagine a spider with four legs
Imagine an Elephant as weak as a Mouse
Imagine a Mouse as strong as an Elephant
Imagine a human that lives under water
Imagine an Octopus that lives on land
Imagine a soldier covered in fur
Imagine a Dog covered in skin
Imagine flying in green sky
Imagine walking on blue grass
Look at all these weird  Possibilities

Holiday Poem

How is the holiday going Room 5. I have another dose of flu so have spent the day on the couch playing on the computer.

Not that the weather is great for being outside either!

I thought I would start a holiday poem and you can add your verse in the comments and I will post it up or you can email me an exciting holiday picture to cheer me up :)

Holidays

Holidays are great
When you can play
Outside in the sun
Lying on your tum

Holidays are great
When you go to interesting places
Riding the waves
And hiding in caves

Holidays are great
Because you get to see different people
Family and friends
Hope it never ends (thanks Sam and Elizabeth)

Holidays are great
Because you get to do lots of fun things
Hills to ski down
Mini golf in town (thanks Lucy and Anne)

Ellie's Kereru Report

Encouraging our birds!

Claudia, Heather and Fran have been busy with their inquiry this term. They have made this video to show what they have done to make a difference to the birds that live outside our classroom windows.

The girls want to attract more birds to this area. They have visited an expert to get ideas of what sorts of things need to be planted to encourage the birds to move in. They have some plants and now they are going to finish clearing the area and plant the new plants under the tree canopy.

Ellie's Cooking Homework

For homework I made a chocolate cake and got Karen to cut the cake for the class for morning tea. Ineka thought it was delicious. I enjoyed making it because I got to make a mess.
