Anzac Day

Today and tomorrow we are looking at why we have a holiday on Anzac Day. I hope the children will be able to share what they are learning with you at home.

Carol sent us this link to a blog today that you might find it interesting to have a look at the video
Least we Forget by Rachel Boyd

This is a link you can hear the Last Post which the music that will be played at the Dawn Service

Here is a copy of the poem "In Flanders Fields" by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae on May 3 1915.

Homework for this week is to choose one of these activities

  1. Make Anzac biscuits
  2. Attend an Anzac service
  3. Cut out a newspaper article about Anzac Day - highlight the when, where, who, why or how
  4. Investigate another war that NZ has sent troops

Try making your own poem to share with us.

Holiday

Hey Room 5 - I hope everyone's holiday has gone well and you are looking forward to coming back to school on Monday.
I went to the top of the North Island for my holiday and visited Cape Reinga.
Can you find it on a map?
I also had to take a picture of this boat  - it has a very interesting name.
I think I might need to add it to my Bucket List!
I am looking forward to hearing about your holiday. Email me a holiday picture so we can share your holiday on the blog

Libby's Slideshow

I made a slideshow to present the ideas I found out about people's treasures.

What do people treasure?

We asked lots of people, children and adults about what things they treasure and with this information we created a wordle.

Claudia's Memory Poem

Ellie's Family

I interviewed my mum and nanna about what was the happiest memory they have ever had.

Treasures

Hypertufa Making

This term we made  hypertufa to represent natural stone for our craft activity.

We used equal parts of
peat, sand, perlite, cement and water
to make our Hypertufa.

It was very messy putting the mix into the moulds. We then planted our pots out after they had cured for a number of days

The pots and pavers will improve over time - like all good things!
