Healthy Lunch

On Friday 11 March we went to Lincoln New World and bought the ingredients for our healthy lunch. We had a great time creating our menu and then making our sushi, pizza, vegetable and fruit platters.
A big thank you to Kyle and Helen Burnett from the Lincoln New Word for sponsoring our Healthy Lunch.
Also a big thank you to Robin, Liz, Gail, Amanda and Ruth - the terrific parent helpers and to Mrs Graves for her great organisation.

Where am I?

Guess where it is on PhotoPeach

Craft Day

Craft day was about how to make sculptures of re-cycled stuff.  Look at some of the pictures.

Craft Day

This is a lifter made by Zoe T. She made this for Craft Day.

Craft day is when people make things to present for the judges who award them with stickers.

Craft Day this year was great because every body joined in and made something for craft day this year.
I hope it is like this again next year!

Bye to our new friends

We would like to say how wonderful it was to have some new visitors to our class and it was very sad to say goodbye to them last week.
We would like to wish Harrison, Marit and Henry all the best back at their schools and we hope you will keep in touch with us.

Healthy Hearts

While some enjoyed having a touch of the beef heart others got to use the stethoscope to listen to their own heart working.

Dissecting a Heart

For homework this week we had to draw a diagram of the heart. On Friday, Alice T very kindly bought along the real thing - a beef heart.
Mike Hamlin came along and explained how this heart was just like ours but only a lot larger. He cut it open so we could see inside it.

The Challenge of Fitness Testing

Today Mr Hamlin came to school to test our fitness. First our height and weight were measured. Then we went around a series of testing stations, and then we had to run around the field twice.

The tests we had were testing our strength, flexibility, speed etc: Pull-ups, sit-ups, standing jump, sprinting, and jumping up. It will be interesting to see how our fitness improves in the next few weeks!

Healthy Food

For our inquiry we are learning all about food and exercise.
A dietician came to our school and talked about the food pyramid. The food pyramid is a triangle with fruit & vegetable, milk & dairy and meat and alternatives.
The dietician gave us two pictures of different types of food. Then we had to guess where each picture went on the food pyramid.
My two pictures were corn and fish. The fish went in the meat and alternatives, and the corn went in the fruit & vegetables.

Did you know?

Did you know that there is a type of fruit called Kiwano?
You should have at least 2 pieces of fruit a day?
You should have at least 3 vegetables a day?
Did you know a serving is the size of your hand?
Did you know that you get fibre and carbohydrates from breads and cereals?
You get fibre and vitamins and minerals from fruit and vegetables?
You get protein and iron from lean meat, chicken and seafood?
