Making Connections

At the end of this term we tried to write interesting stories about people who are connected to our lives. Many of the class chose to write about their Grandparents.

Writing

On Monday we were writing about how the sheep must be feeling out in the rain! Especially the rain that hasn't stopped.
Zayden went home and did some more writing.

Its been raining for the past 2 days now. I am soaking wet from the raindrops and it is making me shiver.  I am going to huddle together with my friends to keep warm.  Look! Here comes the manager, we are getting shifted to shelter.  We are much warmer now which is good because it is nearly dark.

Sam has been very busy crafting for homework.

Dog Hero and the Crazy Parrot

One day Dog Hero was walking in his garden and he saw a mean boy snatch some bread from a crazy parrot. So the parrot nipped him.
The boy began to grow into a dragon. It ate everything in sight. It ate and drank. The police came, and it ate them up.
Then Dog Hero came with an Avro Lancaster and bombed him. The dragon exploded and where the dragon was there stood the boy and he was a nice boy.
Hooray for Dog Hero.

Homework

This week for homework we have been practicing our writing skills and getting feedback from people. Getting feedback helps us improve our skills. Mya and Fran have sent me two pieces of writing this week (thanks Mya and Fran). Can you give them some feedback about their writing. Bella is a soft and gentle cat, but a hunter too.

Bella means beautiful in French.

This little girl is a black cat with white splodges.

Her green eyes are like jewels with black slits.

She is the best cat a human could have.

Book Review: The 39 Clues

The best books I have read are the 39 clues series. This is the story of an eleven year old boy (Dan), and his sister (Amy), on a hunt for the 39 clues. Unfortunately, others are also looking for the 39 clues, and some of them are trained agents. With the help of their dead grandmother, Dan and Amy find their way into first place.

This book has a big vocabulary and lets you imagine all you want. It is suitable for both boys and girls but will keep you on the edge of your seat!

We need to wear our Bus Vests

This is Georgia's persuasive writing about Bus Vests

Have you ever had a child that goes on the bus but they don’t wear a bus vest? If I had the power I would make sure that all children wear a bus vest going to and from school on their school bus.

Children are not safe if they don’t wear a bus vest on their bus. Bus vests have special reflector bands on them so that if the children are not easy to see car lights will shine on then and it warns car drivers that kids are around and they will slow down.This is especially helpful on wet and misty days when visibility is poor.

If your child’s bus comes home late and your child doesn’t have a bus vest on cars will not see them and you could have a child badly injured, or even worse, killed. But if you have a child that wears a bus vest you will know that they are going to come home safely.

On my school bus, some older childrenand some younger ones are constantly being told by teachers that they have to have a bus vest on.They just don’t know that one day when they have just got off their bus and start their walk along the road in the dark without a bus vest on that they might not make it home as safely as they thought.

Once a boy who lived in the Selwyn District got off his school bus on Collins Road and got hit by a car coming round the back of the bus.That is why Selwyn was one of the first places to get bus vests for school children. If I had the power I would make sure that all children wear a bus vest coming to and from school.

Rain

The rain is falling and I am sitting inside writing about the rain. An open window lets a cool breeze into the class room as the teacher tells us what to do.

I love the feeling of rain falling on my head, dripping off the trees, running down my neck. When the rain is falling fast, I have to stay inside but I feel like going outside.

I sit here watching the raindrops having races down the window pane.It’s like they’re scared of something and they have to escape.
