Holiday

Hey Room 5 - I hope everyone's holiday has gone well and you are looking forward to coming back to school on Monday.
I went to the top of the North Island for my holiday and visited Cape Reinga.
Can you find it on a map?

I also had to take a picture of this boat  - it has a very interesting name.
I think I might need to add it to my Bucket List!

Treasures

Hypertufa Making

This term we made  hypertufa to represent natural stone for our craft activity.

We used equal parts of
peat, sand, perlite, cement and water
to make our Hypertufa.

It was very messy putting the mix into the moulds. We then planted our pots out after they had cured for a number of days



The pots and pavers will improve over time - like all good things!

Clive the dragon

Welcome to Room Five and our guardian Clive. 

Clive is a dragon who arrived in a wagon drinking a flagon of fizzy.

He has a scaly head and can breathe fire.

His body is a slither so don't dither and come on in. 

But before you open the door - just so you don't burn, 

make sure you are ready to learn!

Clive is a rainbow dragon

Rainbow dragons have lots of different coloured scales.

Rainbow dragons guard classrooms. They will not let anybody inside the classroom that is not ready to learn.

Rainbow dragons magical powers are breathing fire and helping people learn.

These dragons know the value of learning.

Time to begin

Well where has time gone! This term has disappeared very quickly and we have not yet made a blog post. Lucky we had Karen and Allana keeping us going. A few minor hiccups with passwords but we are now away. Hopefully we can start to post some of the great activities that are happening.

30 Day Challenge

Check out this great BBC site that lets you investigate periods of history. It even lets you add important historical events of your own.

Investigate this challenge by finding our some imporatnt times in history.  Cllick on the image of the person for a time period then select the diamone events in that time.

Finish off by adding 3-6 important events in your life or memory to the timeline. 

Days in a month Rhyme

Try learning this poem so that you always know how many days till your birthday or just how many days there are in each month. 

Paper Planes

At school we are making paper planes and measuring how far they can fly. We will investigate a variety of designs and experiment to see which planes fly the furthest. We will measure how far our planes fly using the standard measures of metre and cm, compare results and have a flying competition.

To help out, please investigate some things you could try to improve the design of your plane.
